Frkanj peninsula

Apart from the holm oak, Rab landscape is well known for its pine tree forests. Several pine tree species grow on the island like aleppo, black and brucian pine tree.

Nature will impress you

It has been recorded that the seeds of the coastal pine were brought to the island in 1862, but the systematic introduction began with the arrival of forestry engineer Pravdo Belija, who lived on Rab for 34 years until his death in 1923. Although his most significant work is the park-forest Komrčar, below the city walls, Belija has planted loads of attractive pine forests, and one of them is the forest on Frkanj peninsula. Frkanj is a peninsula located a few hundred meters away from the old town of Rab, divided by the deep inland bay of St. Euphemia.

Frkanj has long been recognized as a picnic spot and is a place for all-day summer stay, both for young couples as well as families with children. Loads of shade from the pine forest, rocky shore and crystal clear sea,is a perfect setting for an all day trip. In addition, Frkanj has many trails and paths and is popular among pedestrians and cyclists. It is an ideal place for relaxation and recreation.

You can reach Frkanj by our boats transporting tourists, departing from the city port. The line runs from May to October when Frkanj restaurant and Smola Beach Chillout Bar are open. During the cruise, which lasts for 15 minutes, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the city walls and the bell towers of Rab.
